SIJHL Year End Awards: Rookie of the Year

By Tanner Schafer

Over the next couple of days we will be announcing our players of the year. Teams nominated their own players and then it went to a vote between the clubs and media members with teams unable to vote for their own players. That being said, let’s jump right in.

The award for Rookie of the Year is awarded to Max Leduc of the Kam River Fighting Walleye.Often times in college sports you hear the term super senior, well Ledcu may just qualify as a super rookie. The ‘06 forward turned 17 just a month ago but that didn’t stop him from making a major impact on the league. Leduc came in just under a point per game on the best team in the league. Though he started slow with just 3 points in his first 8 games the youngster came alive and finished with 18 goals and 27 assists in 46 games. Leduc was no stranger to recognition either, although he didn’t win a Rookie of the Month award he was honorable mention in the months of November, December, and February. Leduc was a top performer among the fresh faces in the league and his performance was worthy of Rookie of the Year.
