Oliver Paipoonge – After a tight first period at NorWest Arena on Friday night, the home team pulled away from the visitors in the second en route to a commanding 9-3 victory.
The Lumberjacks were the ones who opened the scoring, Ryan Kayser firing a point shot past Walleye netminder Ashton Sadauskas, four minutes into the game. After Kaden Goodwin netted his third of the season for the Walleye to tie the game, Ryan Doucette scored his first to give the home side the lead. The opening frame ended with the score 2-1 for Kam River.
The flood gates opened for the Fighting Walleye in the second. Ryan Doucette scored two more in the frame to complete his hat trick. And Jett Mintenko scored all three of his hat-trick earning goals in the period. Including a single Walleye goal to Riley Borody, and a response from Wisconsin’s Carson Shafor (his first of the season), the boys from Oliver Paipoonge were in front by an 8-2 score after 40 minutes.
Brydon Bell completed the scoring for the Fish in the third, and Connor Corcoran got the visitor’s third of the game to make the final score 9-3 for the Fighting Walleye.
